People’s Policy Platform

Engaging our community to get involved in the City and County budget processes to take our public dollars back is the work of our People’s Policy Platform.

ABOUT THIS WORK

Through our Annual People’s Budget Assembly and Have a HEART campaign, we empower our community to get ahead of City and County budgeting processes to ensure community needs that increase safety and wellness are prioritized.

OUR PROCESS

Each fall, People’s Budget Assembly gathers local organizations, agencies, houses of faith, care providers, and neighbors to discuss budget priorities for the following fiscal year, in co-governance dialogue with electeds.

Each spring, DBP runs campaigns in the City and County to advocate for budget priorities identified at these convenings. A major focus of our work is with the Have a HEART campaign – we are organizing to realize the full 24/7 citywide expansion of the HEART program with an independent phone line and launch a campaign to expand throughout Durham County and Durham Public Schools.
